1. How do HOT RODS work?
Once the outer package is opened, an oxidation process takes place which causes a safe, natural reaction to release heat. HOT RODS warming packs utilize the same technology as used by the National Ski Patrol, explorers of the Artic and Antarctica as well as military forces around the world.
2. How long do HOT RODS last?
With a shelf life of four years HOT RODS hand and neck warmers last 7-11 hours once they are activated. Our large warmers last 16-20 hours and the toe warmers last up to 5 hours. If warming time is not completely exhausted, HOT RODS warming action can be preserved for several days by packing them in an airtight container, such as a zip-seal polybag. HOT RODS garments are packaged in their own reusable heat action preserving zip seal polybags, for your convenience.

In addition, most of our material meet 16 CFR 1615, NFPA 701 and/or the flammability standard of ATSM F 1506-94 (pre-laundering only.)
7. Are HOT RODS Winter Liners flame retardant?
Almost all HOT RODS winters liners are labeled "Flame Retardant". This means that at least one of the major layers of the liner has been chemically treated with a flame retardant merterial which increases flame resistance. Some of our liners are made with 100% FR treated materials and are more appropriate for areas of higher flame and electric arc risks.
8. Are HOT RODS cost effective?
Considering that in extremely cold weather, workers may be able to work outdoors for only half an hour or even less. Cold weather workdays are punctuated by frequent, necessary "warm up breaks" that cost the company money. A worker may cost $25,000 per year. This equals $100 per day or about $14.00 per hour. One pair of warming packs cost 80 cents. That's equivalent to the cost of .057 hours of labor or 3.4 minutes. Only 3.4 minutes of additional "up-time" would pay back the cost of the warming packs.
9. Where are HOT RODS best placed?
Use warming packs in your gloves, boots, pockets, under your collar or in HOT RODS Winter Accessories and Winter Liners.
10. Are there any safety features in your winter liners?
HOT RODS Winter Liners have a strip of silver reflective material on the back. This safety strip reflects back to oncoming cars 1500 times brighter than white fabric. It's a little bit of safety that goes a long way.
